Congratulations to our award winners at the Synchro BC banquet last Saturday!
Alissa Cait won the Harry Jerome comeback award. She was nominated because despite suffering a back injury that resulted in emergency back surgery in May 2017, she managed to recover so that she could compete at the FINA World Masters in August 2017. It wasn't easy though - Alissa put a ton of work into recovering, regaining her strength through extra training sessions and attending practices to stay on top of choreography, even when she couldn't swim.
Sarah Jubert won the Masters Athlete award. She was nominated because she has been a VMS swimmer for 4 years and has always had a fabulous can-do attitude. (She would go to paddling practice for a couple hours on Sunday and then request a 'hard' synchro workout at practice in the evening!). She was also part of the trail-blazing mixed duet and was one of only 11 mixed duets to debut at FINA World Masters in Budapest.
Christina Demiris won the Sport Development Coaching Award. She was nominated because although she's been a familiar face around VMS for many years coaching extra routines, 2016-2017 was her first season coaching a team. She did a phenomenal job coaching athletes ranging in age from 27-67 and re-working the routine 3 separate occasions as the number of swimmers changed for every competition. In addition to coaching her team she also coached VMS's first mixed duet and took them to FINA World Masters.
Thrilled that we have so many amazing swimmers and coaches as part of our club and pleased that Synchro bC recognizes that!
