About

The VMS competitive program includes swimmers with previous synchro experience. Swimmers compete in one or more of the following events: team, combo, trio, duet and solo at the Regional, Provincial, National and International levels.

Practices are typically Sundays 7 – 10 pm (7 – 8 dryland training; 8 – 10 water) and Wednesdays 9:30 – 11 pm (9:30 – 10 dryland training; 10 – 11 water) at Britannia Pool. Additional practices are sometimes added depending on routine numbers.

If you are interested in joining the VMS competitive program, please contact president@vanmasterssynchro.ca.

Athlete and Coach Bios

meghanAthlete: Meghan Henrickson

Meghan began her synchro career back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the earth (well, back when dolphin was still a figure and they used the A,B and C system). After swimming with the Vancouver Aquasonics for four years as a C, B and A swimmer, Meghan made the leap to the ‘burbs and swam with Surrey for another two years. After taking a break from swimming and coaching for a number of years, she found she wasn’t getting enough gossip and drama from her daytime soap operas. So, she jumped right back into synchro. She’s now a coach, Masters swimmer and club president. So far the highlight of her Masters career has been competing in the World Championships (bronze medalist, thank you very much!) and the US Masters Nationals. And as soon as they hold a meet in either Hawaii or the Caribbean, she’ll be there too!

terriAthlete: Terri McCulloch

Terri has been swimming with the Vancouver Masters Synchronized Swim Club for the last 3 years. She swam some synchronized swimming when she was a girl but didn’t know you could swim it as an adult. Now over 35 years later she gets to enjoy the fun of ballet legs (still hard to do well), trying to hold her breath for long periods (getting better), practice verticals and spins and support scull, as well as swimming on a team and even going in competitions. Luckily synchronized swimming is a bit like riding a bike (you get better the more you practice) and the fun and camaraderie of the other swimmers makes keeping an active and healthy lifestyle more than enjoyable. Who knew you could synchronize swim your whole life!

emilyAthlete: Emily Alexander
Emily was a recreational synchro swimmer and a Calgary Aquabelles summer camper throughout junior and senior high school. She took a few years off during her undergraduate degree but started swimming again with the Atlantis Masters synchro team in Halifax in 2003. She joined Vancouver Masters when she moved to Vancouver three years ago. Emily is happiest underwater and probably should have been a fish instead of a person.
